Default Re: Guitar practices

When I practice guitar, I tend to train my ear, because your ear is the best tool you could ever have. I've never learnt to read tabs or notes or whatever so I've always depended on it. That's how I learn everything. I listen to it than I learn it, you just find the sounds on your guitar, it doesn't have to be played the same way.

But as for practices. I just either write, or play something that I can't play, and than play it until I can play it. That's just how I do it though. It works for me, might not work for everybody.

I make up riffs as i go along, just pick up the guitar and make up Black and Thrash metal songs, i did all that learning chords and scales shit for years, boring. In metal, you don't need it.

I like this scale a lot, I think it's called Ionian, but who the fuck knows
Code:
E|-------------------------------------------------------------12--14--15-|
B|-------------------------------------------------12--14--15-------------|
G|-------------------------------------11--12--14-------------------------|
D|--------------------------11--12--14------------------------------------|
A|--------------10--12--14------------------------------------------------|
E|--10--12--14------------------------------------------------------------|
This is a sweep I've seen/heard Karl Sanders from Nile do. If you can do the finger rolls, it's one of the quickest sweep arpeggios on the guitar I know of.

Code:
E|-----------------12h15p12------------------|
B|--------------13----------13---------------|
G|-----------14----------------14------------|
D|--------14----------------------14---------|
A|--12h15----------------------------15p12---|
E|-------------------------------------------|
Two common sweep arpeggios

Code:
E|--------------------15h19p15-----------------|
B|-----------------17----------17--------------|
G|--------------16---------------16------------|
D|-----------17--------------------17----------|
A|-----15h19-------------------------19p15-----|
E|--17-------------------------------------17--|
Code:
E|--------------------12h15p12--------------------|
B|-----------------13----------13-----------------|
G|--------------12----------------12--------------|
D|-----------14----------------------14-----------|
A|-----12h15---------------------------15p12------|
E|--13---------------------------------------13---|

I'd go on, but this is terribly boring.
