I think that if there is too much of em, or when they are too similar across the songs, then even great solos can make the overall impression from a record worse..

I don't like overproduction, stuff like layering that's impossible to recreate live, so I guess if youve got a really straightforward live oriented heavy metal band and the albums have stuff like a backing guitar and a 2-part lead, or something like that, then it does get in the way. I usually like bands, that are less about atmosphere and more about riffs & songs & etc, to have a more basic, real-to-the-band's-physical-possibilities sound. Baroness' second EP was recorded totally live except for vocals and sounds so full and 3 dimensional, which I think is just cool as fuck.

Check out the song transitions, they are so perfect. The perfect balance between positive and negative space makes me hard. More bands should just let their music have space.

Guitar Solos can be awesome, some can drone on....

I like The lil Guitar solo at start of songs like Sabbath does Live with "Black Sabbath" & "Die Young" and then burst into the song.
