Well Slayer lost their pure Thrash after RIB then slowed down in SOH but still had those thrashy riffs, then recovered it with SITA but not to the standard of RIB.

Kreator has a different sound than Exodus who has a different sound than Testament who has a different sound than Destruction who has a different sound than Evile, yet they're all thrash. Thrash can be very diverse in itself.

Yeah, but every other type of metal has its own subgenre. Shit, we've got melodic viking death metal. Surely Slayer fits into its own genre? I never considered them in the same universe as Metallica or Exodus etc. They have always been much darker and more evil sounding.

I've got it. Slayer is proto-death metal.
